Store screenshots are your app's shop window, and both stores reject uploads that don't match their rules. Here's every size in one place — and a way to check your files in seconds.

Check before you uploadDrop your screenshots into the App checker: it validates them against both stores, tells you which device they came from, and can export framed mockups.

App Store rules

  • 1 to 10 screenshots per device size, in .png, .jpg or .jpeg.
  • No transparency — flatten PNGs onto a solid background.
  • Apple scales your largest set down for smaller displays, so one great 6.9" set is enough for most apps.
  • App icon: 1024 × 1024 px PNG, no transparency, no rounded corners (Apple applies the mask).
  • App previews (videos): 15–30 seconds; up to 3 per size.

Tablet screenshots (7" and 10")Same rules; 1200 × 1920 or larger is commonJPEG or 24-bit PNG
App icon512 × 512 px32-bit PNG, ≤ 1 MB
Feature graphic1024 × 500 pxJPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha
  • At least 2 and up to 8 screenshots per device type.
  • To be eligible for promotion in Play's recommendations, provide at least 4 screenshots of at least 1080 px on the short side.

The 2:1 trap

A raw iPhone 16 screenshot is 1179 × 2556 — an aspect ratio of about 2.17:1. That's fine for Apple but too tall for Google Play, whose maximum is 2:1. Most modern Android screenshots (19.5:9 or 20:9) hit the same limit.

The fix: place the screenshot on a 1080 × 1920 canvas with a background colour and a headline, or export a framed mockup from the App checker and crop it to 9:16.

Screenshots that convert

  1. Lead with the benefit. The first two screenshots are what most people see in search results. Show the main outcome, not the login screen.
  2. Add a short caption above each screen — 3 to 6 words, large and readable on a phone.
  3. Use real content, not "Lorem ipsum" or empty states.
  4. Keep important UI out of the safe areas — check with the safe-area overlay so nothing hides under the Dynamic Island in your frames.
  5. Localise captions for your biggest markets.

Rules changeApple and Google update these requirements from time to time. Always confirm in App Store Connect and the Play Console before submitting.

FAQ

What size are App Store screenshots in 2026?

For iPhone, upload 6.9-inch screenshots: 1320×2868, 1290×2796 or 1260×2736 pixels portrait (or the landscape equivalents). If your app runs on iPad, add 13-inch iPad screenshots at 2064×2752 or 2048×2732. Smaller sizes are scaled from these.

What size should Google Play screenshots be?

JPEG or 24-bit PNG, each side between 320 and 3840 pixels, and the long side no more than twice the short side. 1080×1920 (portrait) or 1920×1080 (landscape) is the safest choice.

Why does Google Play reject my iPhone screenshots?

Modern iPhone screenshots are about 19.5:9, which is longer than Play's 2:1 maximum. Add padding or a background frame to bring them to 9:16, for example 1080×1920.
